Chapter IV: Elements of Garment Making

Objectives of the course

  •  Introduce the students to the skills of garment making.
  • To make them familiar with a sewing machine & its various parts.
  • Make them familiar with the use of other sewing aids.
  • To teach them basic hand and machine stitches and their applications.
  • To teach them various simple sewing machine operations.

Learning Outcomes

  • Work with proficiency on the sewing machine.
  • Rectify simple problems of the machine faced while stitching.
  • Stitch different kinds of seams using the sewing machine.
  • Gathers, pleats, and trucks on the fabric.
  • Finish garment edges with hand stitches.

  • Introduction to the sewing machine, its various parts, and functions along with other sewing aids.
  • Common sewing machine problems and their solutions.
  • Develop proficiency in straight and curved seams.
  • Basic hand stitches – basting, hemming, backstitch, running stitch etc. with their end-use.

Q. Which optional subject is best for 11th class?

A. The CBSE Board offers many choices, but the most commonly-opted for optional subjects with science are:
(i) Medical – Psychology, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Economics, Home Science, Fine Arts, Physical Education.
(ii) Non-Medical – Computer Science, Economics, Physical Education, Engineering Drawing, Fine Arts, Psychology.

Q. Is Computer Science hard in class 11?

A. Absolutely not, Class 11 Computer Science is definitely easier than its counterparts like Maths, Physics and Chemistry

Q. What Should I take PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Maths) or PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Biology)?

A. It totally depends upon your interest and educational background. If you want a quick answer, take PCB if you want to study medicine after 12. Take PCM if you want to pursue engineering after 12. Take both (PCMB) if you are not sure what you want to study. If you like to do courses in basic sciences, then you can choose your preferred subjects accordingly.

Q. Is math harder than biology?

A. It depends on your aptitude and what you like.
They are very different subjects are well, so it isn’t really a good idea to compare the two. It’s actually better not to compare to subjects, as they are different (which why they are differentiated as subjects in the first place). A better comparison would usually be topics within the subject itself. But if you were to compare subjects, a better comparison would be between subjects like Biology and Biotechnology, Zoology and Botany, or Math and Physics.
